I've always been a writer. Words and ink are in my blood, they are my breath, my heartbeat. I've been used to spilling across the page all my deepest thoughts and perceptions, sharing my discoveries and growth with readers, because I, like many, just want to be known.

In recent years, I've been silent, not writing about one very important part of my life; I've been afraid that writing would uncover something I wasn't ready to share with some -- some who loved me, who thought they knew me, some who would surely not understand.

I've learned however, that that silence has crippled me. I've been unable to process much of this journey, this growing, because I'm not writing about it. I needed a place to "fling a mass of odds and ends," and make sense of it all on my own.

What sort of diary should I like mine to be? Something looseknit and yet not slovenly, so elastic that it will embrace anything, solemn, slight or beautiful that comes into my mind. I should like it to resemble some deep old desk, or capacious hold-all, in which one flings a mass of odds and ends without looking them through.

And so, at long last, I've come to this place, where I'm ready to journal about my self-discovery, about the path I've chosen, and the joys and sorrows I encounter along the way.
